چکیده

This work is part of the Aquifer CO2-Leak project and aims to understand, quantify model environmental impact a CO2 leak on water quality in carbonate freshwater aquifer as well CO2-water-carbonate interactions. The experiment has been performed within an Oligocene underground quarry located Saint-Emilion (France). A charged with dissolved was injected through borehole. Downstream, seven wells were fitted in-situ probes which automatically measured physicochemical parameters. Modeling of Co2 Leakage up through an Abandoned Well from Deep Saline Aquifer to Shallow Fresh Groundwaters

This article presents a numerical modeling application using the code TOUGHREACT of a leakage scenario occurring during a CO2 geological storage performed in the Jurassic Dogger formation in the Paris Basin. This geological formation has been intensively used for geothermal purposes and is now under consideration as a site for the French national program of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and...

Experimental assessment of CO2-mineral-toxic ion interactions in a simplified freshwater aquifer: implications for CO2 leakage from deep geological storage.

The possible intrusion of CO2 into a given freshwater aquifer due to leakage from deep geological storage involves a decrease in pH, which has been directly associated with the remobilization of hazardous trace elements via mineral dissolution and/or via desorption processes. In an effort to evaluate the potential risks to potable water quality, the present study is devoted to experimental inve...

SPE 115929 Modeling Leakage through Faults of CO2 Stored in an Aquifer

For secure storage of CO2 within geologic formations, the integrity of caps – overlying strata that are impervious to CO2 – is an important factor. Geologic structures, notably faults and the damage zones surrounding them may provide a conduit for CO2 to escape through a cap. If the fault encounters shallower permeable formations, the CO2 rising along the fault can enter them. This lateral migr...

Aquifer-on-a-chip: understanding pore-scale salt precipitation dynamics during CO2 sequestration.

In this study, we develop a lab-on-a-chip approach to study pore-scale salt precipitation dynamics during CO2 sequestration in saline aquifers-a challenge with this carbon management strategy. Three distinct phases-CO2 (gas), brine (liquid), and salt (solid)-are tracked through microfluidic networks matched to the native geological formations. The resulting salt formation dynamics indicate poro...
